Abstract: The School Management Information System (SMIS) for Devi Balika Vidyalaya was developed in order to increase the efficiency of day today activities of the school. The school manages the current data in paper based manual system. The software was developed as a window based solution, which could be used only by the authorized users, with the intention of saving time in their busy lives. The school educational progress can be accessed by anyone and will prove to be helpful for the future progress of the school. The tedious process of gathering information related to students, staff, is the main drawback associated with the current manual system of the school. As a result significant amount of time and effort was wasted. Resource utilization was another drawback associated with the manual system and this was also overcome by the SMIS. The system has been build up with several main features such as term test results analysis for the prize giving ,teachers attendance, students attendance, O/L, A/L results analysis, certificate printing, reports printing ,teachers data analysis and student data analysis. And this has led to better analysis of day to day operations. Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 was used to implement the system in with the help of Microsoft SQL Server express in the Windows environment. Object-Oriented methodologies and present trends in the software industry have been incorporated to develop the current system. This document primarily depicts the importance of the developed system, processes involved with each phase of the Rational Unified Process, problems which occurred throughout the project and the solutions that have been provided.
