POINT OF SALE AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (POSIMS) FOR LALANTHA SUPER

Abstract

The Point of Sale & Inventory Management System (POSIMS) is a standalone Application intended for my client M/s. Lalantha Super which is a medium scale Supermarket & stores premises located at Nawaloka Junction Elapitiwala Ragama, to handle this business process client was using a Legacy POS system, which only facilitates a print receipt to the customer for a Transaction, and use traditional file based manual system to control inventories, which has malfunctions. Therefore current system encounters lot of difficulties and practical issues such as inefficient inventory control, insufficient inventory analysis, and no report generations etc. The inventory is the most critical and crucial entity in the business sector, so having a thorough focus on inventories is very essential. Hence minimizing human errors, enabling automation access to the system, enhance the flexibility of the system, improve the customer relationship of the system (CRM), resolving security issues are the key functionalities of the POSIMS. The POSIMS is developed by using JAVASE technology and it developed under the context of Object Oriented Concept. Therefore substantially it inherits UML Diagrams such as Use Cases, Class Diagrams, Sequential diagrams Entity Relationship Diagram etc in order to analyse and design the POSIMS. The DBMS of the POSIMS is MYSQL 5.0 Server which ensures the data integrity, data recoverability, and more importantly Security. Currently POSIMS is already deployed in the implementation environment POS system is providing Transaction Processing level support to the Client and IMS is providing the Management Information level to the Management.
