Online Booking Engine & Vehicle Fleet Management System for Shineway Rent-A-Car Private Limited

Abstract

Shineway Travels Private Limited is a well established business for over 15 years, and is operating well in their business consistently. They are one of the most popular car rental companies in Sri Lanka. Currently, they maintain their booking information with the help of Information Technology, but in a limited boundary. They mostly are catering for the customers who come directly to them, and sometimes, they have customers who contact them by email. Current booking management process is based on Microsoft Excel worksheets, and the rest of the coordination is taking place manually. Now, the Management of Shineway Travels has decided to expand their market overseas, in order to survive in the competitive environment as well as increase their sales. Even though they currently have a web site, it does not completely help them to manage their bookings and reach global customers who are visiting Sri Lanka Mainly the system has three clear sections. First is the booking section, where the general public is directly involved in making booking requests. This part is the most important part of the system. Second Part is the booking management section. Shineway Travels will know their statistics and get all management reports from this section. Third part is managing driver and vehicle records separately, and providing reports about each to the management. The system is analyzed and designed according to Object Oriented concepts with the help of Unified Modelling Language. And it is implemented with open source PHP server side language, to be hosted in an Apache web server, with the help of popular free MySQL database management system at the backend. NetBeans for PHP, and PhpMyAdmin free software programs are also used as tools in order to make the development process efficient. The system is successfully tested putting online, and has been working for some time. Some fine tuning has also been done after hosting on the real web server, and has been accepted by the Shineway Travels Private Limited as a solution for their global expansion and increasing revenue.
