Stock Control and Online Showroom System for Lakkam Trade Center

Abstract

The past few years have brought out a phenomenal change to the business world. Therefore standing still has never been an option to recover. Each technological advance offers a chance to become more efficient, capture a greater market share and increases the stake holder value.1990 upwards with the commercialization of the Internet, E-Commerce has become more popular among the general public and the business people responded by creating entirely new type of businesses and fundamentally altering their existing businesses through Internet. This project is concentrating about developing an E-Commerce web site for the Industrial Development Board (IDB) showroom called Lakkam which is in marketing locally manufactured products such as cane based furniture and other items, local foods, hand made clothes etc. Management believes that having a single showroom is limiting their sales to a one physical location though still they were unable to open Showrooms Island wide. Manually handling the company processes has also been a great issue for the company, especially when it comes to stock maintenance and supplier management. Lack of an efficient system which addresses above issues the author has gained an opportunity to build up a system which will be helpful in their operational work and also expand the sales throughout the country. System is developed under the PHP language. Mainly WAMP Server 2.0 and Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 have been used for developing purpose. However the project scope is limited to online order processing and stock maintenance. Online payment and credit card processing is out of the project scope and kept as a further enhancement. Hopefully the system which has been developed will help to engage a better perspective to the company processes and increases the sales as management believes.
