INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR CELLULAR ARCADE

Abstract

Cellular Arcade (pvt) Ltd is a well reputed company that imports mobile phone and accessories and sells for local market. They have few branches in Colombo district. They are repairing mobile phones and they also sell phone and parts as a whole. That company is employed number of salesmen and technicians and all branches have branch manager. That company was started since 2002. Their business process is being handled by manually and they are using Excel and Word application for documentation. This business process has several disadvantages that help to motivate for this project. Firstly I studied their business process and I discussed with owner which parts we should computerized. The company owner wanted to computerize all business process such as employee management, payroll system but that increase project scope. Finally we decided computerized only main business process such as purchasing, invoicing, good transferring, supplier management, inventory controlling, and repair jobs management, report generation, owner can administrate all transactions. Next problem that I faced which programming language should I use and that software should be desktop based application or web based application. Then I selected develop web based application using PHP because I don t want worry about networking and administrator can be access from anywhere. So I used CakePHP framework as a main development framework and I also used MySQL for develop database and I used third party tools, frameworks, libraries for charting, PDF generation, reporting and implement ajax. We used rapid prototype development method as a development Methodology Firstly we tested 2 weeks at main branch. I thought this system works smoothly and help to doing easily, reliability, faster their business and I believed this system help to get faster and reliable decision making. We identified few bugs and changes. Bugs and changes were fixed. Company owner agreed to invest PCs, Web server and other things within next six months.
