Authors: Nimesh, H.J.M.

Abstract: Jagath Traders is a retail dealer in stationery, gift Items and fancy Goods in the City of Matara. At present they are using a paper based system to record details of its stock, customers, suppliers, to order new stock and they are using hand-written billing system. Their current manual system is not efficient and gives lots of problems to them. The advantage for a company by having an automated system of recording details is that the efficiency will increase, since mistakes, overwriting of facts; miscalculations and so on could be prevented. In the field of business, the concept of Stock Control/Management has a special place. The reason is because stock control is a process for keeping track of items in stock. By doing good stock control, a company can identify the different demand that each item has, depending on the views of the public, and also reduce items from stock risk. Stock control system may be used to automate a sales order fulfilment process, automatically monitors inventory amounts, provides information concerning inventory, and help users to decide an order for replacement inventory should be placed. Stock control system includes storage for inventory, an indicator for monitoring and reporting the level of current inventory. Most businesses tend to go for a fully integrated inventory system, so that the ordering, billing, and usually the payment system of the restaurant can be integrated into one package. This is a highly accurate type of system and is the one that will save the most time and money over the long term.
