Authors: Weerasena, A.A.N.
Issue Date: 2-Jun-2014
Abstract: This dissertation depicts the solution for the problem domain of automating the administration task for all fixed assets in Matrix Institute of Information Technology (Pvt.) Ltd. Matrix is a well known ICT training institute in Sri Lanka, providing variety of educational programs from locally and internationally recognized universities. At present, the entire asset administration process is done manually. This manual intervention, not only forces the Matrix management to deploy additional resources to manage and maintain its fixed assets, but also leaves certain transactions related to its fixed assets untracked. The objective of this project is to automate the asset administration process to minimize the manual intervention and thereby improve the efficiency with complete and quality documentations on all transactions related to fixed assets using a web based system in client s live business environment. The system mainly focuses on asset registration and maintenance. In addition to the two core functions, the system provides various reports including the depreciation details to the Matrix management helping them to make appropriate business decisions on its fixed assets. The Asset Management System was developed using Object Oriented Methodologies and used Unified Modeling Language during the system design phase. NetBeans 6.8 was used as the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to implement the system with Java as the programming language. My SQL was used as the database in Windows environment. The following chapters of this dissertation describe the implementation process carried out during this project. The successful implementation of this system in a live business environment would help Matrix Institute to carry out its asset administration process in a cost effective way.
