Job Costing and a Leave Management System For Excel Technology Lanka (Pvt) Ltd

Abstract

Leave is an important inter- personal issue for all employees, and each employee at some or another time has a situation where personal matters and organizational contingencies conflict. But for a company unplanned leave is always a hassle. It can create great project delivery disturbances, which is very visible if the degree of interdependency is quite high. The Excel Technology Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, which is one of the leading research oriented software companies in Sri Lanka was also facing problems due to their unmanaged leave system. The current system was very time consuming and inefficient because the users has to manually fill the leave form and wait until it goes up and down in the approval hierarchy. So as a solution to this problem, this Leave Management System was proposed which provides an easy to use application for the users to apply leave and at the same time a good overview of the current leave situation of the company to the higher management which is very critical especially to software companies. Through this system the users mainly can apply leave, edit or cancel leaves, view the leave history, get leave help and approve or reject the applied leaves. All the communication between entities in the hierarchy is done through emails and other than that email notifications are sent when leaves timeout. The system was developed using Visual Studio (2008) and hence all the web pages were implemented in ASP.Net. The database was implemented in MS SQL Server 2005. Unified Modelling Language was used in the analysis and design stages of the project (ArgoUML software). The system was properly designed after a thorough analysis of the current system and the implementation was successfully tested and completed to be integrated with the intranet of Excel Technology Lanka (Pvt) ltd. This promises to give a smooth functioning procedure with user friendly environment. I strongly believe the work which I have done will engage a better leave management in Excel Technology Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
