Abstract

This dissertation provides a comprehensive and a detailed description of web based school management system developed for St: Mary s College, Negombo.This project is mainly focus on replacing the current manual system of schools student, teacher information to an efficient web based system. And also, some additional useful features were added which could not be done in the current manual system. Through the administrator student and teacher are able to create profiles. So, that student and teachers have a profile based access to the system. The class related information such as students, teachers, subjects for a class are computerized .The administrator and teachers are able to add/modify term test subject grades. Administrator is able to take yearly welfare payments. To enhance the communication between student and teacher a messaging system is used. Reports generation is one of the main objectives in this system. According to the role of the person various reports can be generated by this system. Students are able to get their progress reports according to their term test subject grades. Teachers are able to get any students reports separately and as a class wise progress report. Administrator also is able to get all those reports and other various reports. Apart from that Administrator is able to get reports related to welfare payments. Such as daily income report, period income report, yearly income report, unpaid students reports, etc. The design was started after the analyzing and specifying all major requirements of the system. All those identified requirements are describes in analysis chapter of this dissertation. Object oriented design approach was used to design this System. The class diagram ,sequence diagrams were used to design the system. properly.Since web based system, ASP.Net was used as a suitable server side language to implement the system. SQL Server was used to create database for the system. Also some few reusable codes were used appropriately. Finally, the system was tested accordingly to ensure that all the requirements are met. All the functionalities worked as expected and all the major requirements were satisfied. The final system was tested in the client site and it was successfully satisfied the client needs. Therefore this system will be a real beneficial system for St:Mary s College,Negombo.
