Web Based Price Quotation and Illustration System For AVIVA NDB Insurance Plc (PQIS)

Abstract

An insurance quotation system is a valuable selling tool to any life insurance sales person. This value extends greater for unit-linked insurance because of its investment nature. Unit-linked insurance is an investment linked insurance which needs expected return on investment to be projected and shown to customer at the selling point. This projection is a complex computation. AVIVA NDB Insurance Plc, one of the pioneers of introducing unit-linked insurance to Sri Lankan market, used an Excel based standalone system for generating quotations with ROI illustrations. With growth of product range, volumes, selling network, administration and integrity requirements, the company expected to implement a formal quotation system to its multi channel island wide distribution network. This project is aimed to implement a simplified and easy to use Price Quotation and Illustration System (PQIS) for the above purpose. The system is implemented through a web site to reach the entire distribution network as a light weight application. The expected number of users in distribution network is nearly 3000. The system consist a quotation engine, ROI illustration, centrally controlled product maintenance, user administration and other important features as a selling tool such as appointment diary, business leads maintenance and an investment planner. This is further supported by trilingual quotation printing capability in English, Sinhala and Tamil. The design and implementation of PQIS has followed a web engineering approach. The system uses open source technology. It runs on Windows XP platform using Apache HTTP web server. HTML pages are supported with PHP scripting. Database designed using MySql. The system implemented combining all these technologies using a WAMP server.
