Inventory Management System For Departments in Faculty of science, University of Jaffna (IMS)

Abstract

Inventory Management System is important for all organizations. It is vital for organizations which are operating stock control, ordering and preparing report. These are fixed assets of the department for their use and are not for sales or moving. These inventory details are necessary whenever auditing takes place in the department. This Inventory Management System contains the inventory details of the departments in faculty of science, University of Jaffna. This project involves the analysis, design and implementation of what is defined as a multi-user information system especially for university Inventory applications. The main functions of this system are inventory control, maintaining supplier details, managing the details of Items which have been given as loan or removed from the department, managing the consumable items and preparing several reports. When an item is damaged, the authorized officer can remove the item from the inventory and order for a new item. This prototype is completed with a graphics style user interface for the university authorized staffs to access the information they need. System designed using the structured analysis & designed techniques. This Inventory Management System was developed using Microsoft visual C#.net. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 was used as the Database Management System. This combination ensures a high portability to develop the system. All the functional and non functional requirements submitted by the client are fulfill by this system. This developed system is thoroughly tested to guarantee a validated system. This system makes a change in the official environment of the faculty of science by providing more efficient and effective system handling.
