ONLINE STUDENT INTERACTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR THE INSTITUTE OF DRAFTING TECHNOLOGISTS SRI LANKA.

Abstract

The Institute of Drafting Technologists Sri Lanka (IDTSL) is a professional body which aims to improve the technical knowledge and develop the careers of its members. As the institute is situated in Colombo, the students from other areas have difficulties in traveling specially when submitting assignments etc. And the institute also has difficulties in passing important messages to the students without delays. The Institute currently has manual procedures for student registration, assignment submission and publishing examination results which is not yet merged with new technologies. Mentioned here were a few of the problems which is about to solve using the proposed Student interaction management system . The system will be used as a media to communicate with some focused groups of the public as well. The solution consists of the web site for IDTSL, Information distribution sub system and the Student Interaction sub system which can be further divided into modules. Giving information of IDTSL to the public, online student registration, Assignment submission and assessments, interacting with other members and lecturers through their personal logins, Maintaining Member profiles and providing information to the management are some features in this particular Student Interaction Management System. The report generation module aids the users as well as the management. The proposed web based Student Interaction Management System will be developed using PHP: Hypertext Pre-processor, which is a powerful server-side scripting language, and Apache as the web server. MySQL will be used as the Database Management System. Iterative / incremental development methodology will be followed.
