Abstract: Matrix Institute of Information Technology (Pvt.) Ltd is one of the leading ICT trainers in Sri Lanka. Matrix provides computer lab facilities for their students for free, in making their students more competent in their studies. Software that is needed by the students is installed on those machines. Users of the lab, needs to have a prior reservation to use the PCs. To overcome difficulties & drawbacks of the current system a web based solution needed to be implemented. Using the On line Lab Reservation System, users can remotely login & make their reservations aggregating to the allocated times & sequences to suit their software needs. Users can also cancel the reservations they done. In the meantime, users can keep requests on their software needs. Users are also given the opportunity to download software through the web-site. Administrators can update resource details such as user, client, software & hardware details through the web site. Administrators can view all the reservation details in optimized views. Management gets reports regarding the reservation details & the usage of the system. Systems analysis & design was done using object oriented methodologies. Rational Rose was used as the UML diagramming tool. PHP: Hypertext Processor was used as the sever side scripting language, Apache as the web server & MySQL as the database management software. All the client side validations were done using JavaScript. Implemented web solution could address most of the client requirements, hence making it a successful project.
