Abstract: The goal of this dissertation is to discuss the implementation of a computer based Business Management System for Weeratunga Stores, which is wholesale and retail vendor and a distributor for Agricultural products, Hardware items and Building materials. At present all the business documentation and managing business scenarios such as process Customer Orders, Inventory control, and Transport coordination have been prepared manually. With the rapid growth of the business in last years my client faced lot of difficulties carrying further their business with traditional book keeping method. Therefore this computer based Business Management System was developed to provide an efficient and effective mechanism to automate those manual processes in order to result better performance compared to traditional method. The staff members can use this system to enter Stock arrivals/stock movements, enter Customer and Part details, register Customer Orders, customer order delivery, payment for customer orders...etc. Company management can use this system to get sales reports, stock details, debtor details, customer records, parts need to reorder...etc. Considering ease of development and opportunity to apply more theories learnt over past years it was decided to build the system according to component based architecture which employs RAD techniques where applicable. After analyzing the business process of the client, three categories of work was identified according to the functional behaviour and type of employees who involve with that work. They are Customer Order Handling, Inventory Control and Transport coordination. Functionality of each section was designed using UML notations and developed according to three-tier architecture and Object Oriented concepts. BOUML, which is a free and open source tool, was used for UML modelling. C# and ASP.NET was used to implement the user interface and business logic of the system. Database was implemented using SQL Server 2005. Test cases were prepared to test all implemented functionalities and tested thoroughly including non-functional requirements. It was verified by the client, that the system is functioning properly and most of their requirements were fulfilled by the system. Hence it can be said that this new system can be used for effective and efficient Business Managing operations of the client.
