Catering Management System for Gardenia Reception Hall

Abstract

Management System is a general term for a computer systems in an enterprise that provide information managing facilities about its business operations. Catering Management System entitles the users to manage the reservation information in a meaningful manner and therefore, provide their service in an efficient manner. Moving to a web based management system is a way to reach Ecommerce easily. Gardenia Reception Hall is a service provider for home scale meal deliveries and banquet facilities. This was established in year 2006 and now is expanding by recruiting more staff. This was an attempt to develop a web based solution for a catering service provider replacing the existing manual system. At present, bookings for Gardenia Reception Hall are handled manually; using a paper based booking system. Also, during most of the year, bookings must be made in person at the office. It was felt that an online system could offer many advantages, including allowing members to book from any Internet connected computer. The system allows users to access all functionality over the Internet, using webbased technology. Users can check availability, book orders along with facilities, check their details, input and alter both order and client data. This report documents the progress of the system from analyzing the problem through to implementation and evaluation of the final system. Unified Modeling Language (UML) was followed in designing the relevant documents using Rational Rose 2000. Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Edition 2005 was used to implement the system in Microsoft Visual C# .NET language the Windows platform. In order to implement data layer Microsoft SQL Server 2005 get involved. To handle database requests ADO .NET technology was employed. Further Crystal Reports 9 was utilized to implement reports and help facility, respectively. Web component was implemented with the help of ASP.NET technology and the Web Server, Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0. The final system was a successful one which met all its objectives and scope in helping the management to come up with the system what they really dreamed of.
