Issue Date: 2-Jun-2014
Abstract: Bookshops are very popular among people because of they provide a variety of books under one roof. In order to compete with the contemporary business industry, they should provide more and more facilities to their customers. Most of the Bookshops today face some crucial issues when it comes to store houses and manual processing of transactions, which sometimes take more time, which will make the customer unhappy. Janatha Trade centre has been in the business for couple of years and it has witnessed those above-mentioned issues cum, redundant labour cost, stock maintenance expenses, repetition of work, poor management etc. This project was undertaken to make things easier for Janatha Trade Centre and overcome their business issues. This application is a web-based system, where customers can experience their shopping, search books, add book(s) to shopping cart, and make the payments by a single click, and more especially, the opening hours of this bookshop will have no boundaries. The doors will be open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, which means that the customer can access to this web based Bookshop via internet facility from any physical location at any given time. The software was designed using Object Oriented System Development (OOSD) design methodology and Rational Unified Process (RUP). The complete implementation of the system was based on ASP.NET technology. Visual studio 2008 (C#), SQL Server 2005(Rational Database Management System) have been used as development tools, and IIS has been used to implement the web server for the project. As a whole, the dissertation discusses the case for this project and it s evaluation in a stepwise fashion. It also covers the implementation issues and the problems encountered in development. The effort taken to make the project a success is further described. There by the dissertation describes the project framework comprehensively and enhances the visibility of the development project.
