Web Based Work Flow Management System for CEHoldings

Abstract

CEHoldings is a medium scale business in Sri Lanka which is based on the paper bags production and paper based items. Production process has several stages to pass for complete a bag order. This process was monitored through the manual book keeping by the CEHoldings staff. So the current manual system wasn t not capable of producing the out come on time with quality and customer satisfaction. In the current manual process, lots of relevant information is not recorded so they are missed for decision taking. This was affected to grow of the business even if the high demand for paper products out side. Some other newly declared competitors got chances because current follow of work didn t meet the expectation of clients. This was shown that the importunacy of work flow management concept to meet challenging demands of the recent time. Hence, Web based workflow management system was proposed to address this business requirements. In the first phase, order handling process with the time line generation functionality for each phase of the order workflow was developed. Other than that order progress reporting mechanism for the workers and Interactive client login for registered business clients to inline with their orders, also developed. Report and graphs generating facility was provided through the system for managerial task. Interactive web interfaces provided some kind of marketing on the CEHoldings business over the internet with online quotation generating facility. Iterative development model was used to develop the system. System was developed using Java/J2EE technology based on the Spring framework which provides powerful framework for develop web based applications. Hibernate ORM framework and Spring IOC concept were used to develop business functionalities. Jasper reporting framework and Jfree charts were used to generate reports. Apache tomcat was used as application server. MySQL was used as the database management system. System is thoroughly tested using JUnit test technology. Paper bags and paper production industry have a huge potential to develop as export product. To achieve this, it needs to fulfill international standards and is the challenge. Hence this work flow management system would be one of big step to improve productivity of our paper bags production industry up to global standards.
