Inventory Control System for Medicom Pvt Ltd

Abstract

Providing information on inventories on time to the Management is critical to make decisions regarding orders or transactions. Therefore managing inventories is a basic issue in any type of business. At present Medicom (PVT) Ltd. proceeds its business using an automated system along with the traditional manual business process. Because of this semi automated business process Medicom (PVT) Ltd faces lots of difficulties and deficiencies in its business process. Medicom pvt ltd is one of the premier pharmacies in Sri Lanka which has six outlets in Colombo. Business process of Medicom is first outlet request items from the head office and head office request items from the supplier. Then supplier send items to head office then head office send those to the outlet according to the request. If items sent to the outlet are expired or damaged those will return to the head office and then return to the supplier. The project, Inventory Control System for Medicom (PVT) Ltd. was carried out to enhance the inventory management process in an efficient and productive way. The functions of Medicom Inventory Control System and its efficient reporting facility assist the management to take critical business decisions on time. Waterfall software development model was used as software development methodology. Stepwise descriptions and justifications are provided throughout the dissertation. Object Oriented Design (OOD) approach was followed and relevant diagrams were used in the analysis stage. The Two - tier client server distributed architecture was favored among many other similar architectures. As the implementation aspect Microsoft Visual Basic .Net 2005 was used as the programming language, and SQL Server 2000 was used as the database management system (DBMS). Objectives of this project were successfully achieved within the given scope and time line.
