Student Information Management System for SIVAT Educational Services (Pvt) Ltd

Abstract

Nowadays people expect faster services from their service providers, and people tend to do things in easier ways rather than going through a difficult process. Therefore in today s world most of the tasks done by a working person are assisted by a Computer, which consists of special software developed to fulfill his or her needs. Student Information Management System, a tailor made software solution for educational establishments helps the institution to manage student data, building student schedules, tracking student attendance, and managing many other student-related data needs in a school, college or university. Use of such software in daily activities in an educational institute will provides more benefits to the organization. The management of the SIVAT Educational Services also wishes to implement such system at their institute for the better performance of their non academic staff and also for the benefit of academic staff and students too. They will be the main users of the system apart from the management. Students and lecturers will use the system to view their payment details, class timetables. The non academic staff will have to perform all the registrations, payment handling, class scheduling and also preparation of reports for the management using the system. Those are the main functions of the system. The proposed system was planned to implement as a web based solution by considering the future enhancement capabilities and also considering the future trend patterns. And the system is mainly consisting of a public accessible website (Categorized based on students and staff) which acts as the extranet and the authorized user accessible Intranet which mainly includes the forms, interfaces to carry out the daily functions. The software used to develop the above system are, PHP Hypertext Pre-processor, which is a powerful server-side scripting language, and Apache as the web server. MySQL was used as the Database Management System. This combination ensures a high portability to the system developed. And also JavaScript was used for client side validations and for interface designing purposes Dreamweaver and Firefox was used. System implemented has covered more than 90% of the user requirement as how found out at the user evaluation process. It has reduce the workload of the each user and also made their daily routines much convenient than before.
