SALES, INVENTORY CONTROL AND ACCOUNTING SYSTEM FOR K.M. PERERA AND SONS COMPANY

Abstract

K.M. Perera and Sons is the sales agent of Horana in BATA Pvt (Ltd). Their business process can be divided into three main parts, such as inventory control system, sales and the accounting system. The main factor is inventory control system because other two systems depend on it. They have a manual system to manage their business but it is inadequate to handle it and is also time consuming. At the same time generated reports are not accurate. Due to this unsatisfactory situation the shop owner faces difficult situations in managing his business. The entire system is divided in to three sub systems, namely inventory control, sales, and accounting systems. Computer system entirely covers inventory control and sales system but not 100% in accounting system due to lack of time limitation. Accounting system is depended on inventory control and sales system. All payment types such as cash, cheques, credit cards, gift vouchers, exchanges, claims and credit of inventory and sales system are covered by this computer system. Hence all factors essential to accounting system are fulfilled. Daily, monthly and annual reports of inventory, sales and accounting are also clearly shown in this system. This system is developed according to the three-tier architecture. Unified Modeling Language, Entity Relationship and Flow Charts are used to analyze and design the system. Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 was used to implement the system in VB .NET language with the help of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Crystal Reports are used to generate reports. Also macromedia flash and adobe Photoshop are used to enhance the appearance of the front end develop by VB.NET. This system was developed in a manner to include other items easily and also to install it in any other computers. All parts of the system were checked systematically and found to be functioning perfectly.
