Title: Web Based Gold Loan System For PD Pawn Brokers

Abstract: This project focuses on PD Pawn Brokers located in Mt Lavinia. The main aim of this project is giving them an appropriate web based solution and running it smoothly. The solution is named Web Based Gold Loan system (WBGLS). PD Pawn Brokers is a small entrepreneurship formed with a few staff in a single branch location. This project has taken a dynamic step towards computerizing their operation cycle from manual system. Web Based Gold Loan system (WBGLS) is mainly uses to record their day to day business transactions and give reports to the management. WBGLS captures customer information; keeps record of pawning & payment details, interest computation of daily accruals, keeps records of online & offline auctions, reminder letter generation and maintain an audit trail. Based on the above information, WBGLS gives operational reports and MIS reports. Main objective of implementing the WBGLS is improving the efficiency of the Gold Loan operation by eliminating manual intervention, improve the quality of work, standards and provide effective information to related parties. WBGLS has been developed using open source technologies. PHP is light weighted and more secured server side language used to develop whole system pages. MySql, one of the famous open source database is used as the database management system. Joomla and Virtumart content management system (CMS) are used to design the online auction and balance inquiry modules. Paypal payment gateway has been used as a method of payment on the online site. Graphical charts such as bar charts, pie charts etc. developed by Google graphs is one of the Ajax and JQuery technologies introduced by Google developers. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the system acceptance and test scenarios were created to evaluate the functionality of the system. WBGLS project achieved all the proposed functional and non-functional requirements as well as some additional features.
