Abstract: Web based network monitoring System empowers network engineers and administrators to monitor their network statistics remotely. The web based implementation of the developed system enables users to remotely monitor the networks as well as using any web enabled device. Mainly the system will monitor and control the entire network in the university. In controlling part, the user authentication and authorization will be manipulated by the system. The system monitors network devices, servers, nodes, connectivity, traffic, applications, logs and many more events as well as basic configurations of devices. The monitoring system focuses on monitoring the host server and the host network. The web based network monitoring system provides added benefits and functions such as basic configuration remotely, which the current industry applications do not provide. The system provides a combination of services in a single package where the industry applications provide as separate packages. System Administrator can define rule or set of policies about internet usage of individual users according to the organization in the system easily. The system will be powerful to alternate rules or policies in special cases such as regarding allowing special sites for special users to according to their job or field in research. Proxy is an application level gateway which is the most suitable network controlling system for the university. Because most of the student s activities are based on web applications such as software downloads, social network and other related activities. The Squid proxy server has an ingenious feature called delay pools which supports to control bandwidth, maintaining different bandwidth limits for different user groups. Delay pools allow limiting traffic for clients or client groups, with various features. Analyzing the access log, administrators are able to monitor clients' activities. This project is proposed to develop a user friendly system with interactive web interface for configuration, monitoring and controlling network usage providing maximum flexibility of squid features of bandwidth controlling in easy-to-use and easy-to-configure approach. This tool allows to track any user, giving the most detailed information on what, how and when network users performed. Activity Monitor and control offers efficient control.
