Abstract: Agriculture sector is an important determinant in Sri Lankan economy. As well as other sectors and other countries, there are some technological improvements in agriculture sector of Sri Lanka as a result of the enhancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Individual attention to field using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology, usage of climatologically important information for researches, collaboration and sharing knowledge of expertise, implementation of e-business with agriculture and long term information management systems are important technologies for agriculture development. This project is enormous effort to integrate ICT with agricultural development in Mahaweli area. Online Agronomist for Mahaweli Systems is web based collaborative and information management system, developed to solve agricultural problems related to Farmers, Field Assistants, Agriculture officers, Businessmen as well as agriculture specialists with supporting of GIS and digital photographical technologies. Decision makers also supported by this system due to ability of handling large number of data with geo locations, event managing and data collecting facility without reaching fields. Agricultural researches supported by this system due to ability of reaching international weather maps with overlaying facilities. Rapid Application Development (RAD) methods have been used to develop the system. Apache server has been used to hosting, Joomla Content Management System (CMS) has been used as a tool, Joomla templates and extensions have been used to design and development of the system. Service of this system is economically and environmentally valuable and available in 24hours for support due to web based application.
