Web Based online system for Dewasiri group of hotels

Abstract

Sri Lanka has a growing tourism industry. Since gaining independence from the British in 1947, it has continued to attract foreign investors and tourists to the island. Over the years, many beautiful resorts, hotels and spas have opened. Incorporating the diverse culture of the country, the various Tourist Establishments here offer visitors a unique, yet memorable experience to remember with. Dewasiri group is a continuously growing company which has started with a small hotel in 1990, and having one large beach hotel and newly built guest Inn. A manual system was used to manage the hotel process which made lot of errors and low efficient. Presenting the hotel information, and maintaining a smooth booking operation was a major challenge for the group. The Web based online system designed for Dewasiri group, is an online system which can be used to publish the information of group and automate most of the manual operations done in its business process. This system helps Dewasiri group to maintain their business process more efficiently and smoothly. Unified Modeling Language (UML) has been used to design the system and Dreamweaver was used to develop the system. The development language was PHP. Java Script was used to validation as client side scripting. XAMPP 3.2.1 has facilitated to install Apache sever and MySQL server. They are essential required to run the web based system and the database. The testing process of the complete system was successful done by staff of Dewasiri group. Questionnaires were administrated to directors and staff members of Dewasiri group and their feedback has been gathered. Feedback of the survey revealed the system was accurate and useful. All the required functionalities of the process of selection of reservation management have been computerized through developed system. The system was implemented to automate the reservation process and customer management of dewasiri group.
