Web Based Examination Process System for Sri Lankan Universities

Abstract

South Eastern University of Sri Lanka is one of the major universities in Sri Lanka (SEUSL). The main goal of this SEUSL is to Develop and Strengthen its role as world class University through teaching and learning, continuous improvement of academic research and support programs, and utilizes the best and suitable administrative practices that will lead to regional and national development with the integration of advanced technologies in the university system to meet the global challenges. At present, the examination branch staff doing theirs using MS-Excel and MS-Word for student registration, examination related works and result analysis works. Also students don’t have any computerized application to complete their examination related works such as examination application, result view and other academic works. Further, New student don’t have any alternative option to reserve their university entrance when they couldn’t come to the university before the due date. Furthermore, lectures don’t have any computerized system to complete some of their examination works. Therefore the present manual system is not efficient. The aim of this project is to develop one centralized MIS to aid students and staff in their academic and examination related Management. This system was design to be used in the existing IT infrastructure of the department of Examination and the University. And also it has some advance features that are SMS notification whenever anything related academic works which will be updated by the examination branch and chat option box examination staff and other users who will register in the system to clarify any issues related to the academic and examination activities. Since the system is customizable, it can be use by any Sri Lankan Government University’s Examination Department. In order to develop this web site, a number of technologies must be studied and understood. PHP, HTML and CSS are using to create WebPages and other functions; MYSQL is using as a Database and adobe Photoshop is using for the graphic related works. The project was finished exceeding the Department expectations. User feedback was positive and they found the system easy to use and extremely helpful and beneficial.
