Title: Location Aware Queries for Wireless and Sensor Networks
Authors: Senarath, S.R.
Issue Date:  12
Abstract: Wireless and sensor networks(WSN) is a rapidly emerging research area. Sensor networks can be used in many areas to build important applications. Military, agriculture, health and transportation are some of them. These sensors are small resource constrained devices with low storage, processing and most importantly power. Power is considered utmost critical in WSN. As such when developing WSN applications reducing power consumption is a focal concern. A sensor network is a collection of spatially distributed sensor nodes. Traditional WSN query fetches data from the network irrespective of the location. However, the user may want data from a specific location only and if that can be facilitated the power sonsumptin can be reduced. In this project acquisitional queries for WSN is enhanced with location awareness and thus to make only the sensors at the required locations to sense & send data. This project proposes a query syntax based on relational spatial queries, however taking into consideration the resource constrained environment of WSN. Location aware queries & the corresponding functionality were designed to cater for sensor networks even with dynamic sensors. Deployed height of the sensor is considered in the project which touch the idea of sensor mote on three dimensional system. By enabling above features appropriately this project tries to save WSN energy consumption and introduce a user friendly query syntax too.
