Title: On Efficient Multi-Core Usage
Authors: Rathnayake, R.A.T.D.
Issue Date: 19-Dec-2013
Abstract: The Processor is the main part of the computer. The execution speed of a programm is mostly depend on the processing speed. The Processor manufactures face an everincreasing demand for processing power. The traditional method of increasing CPU performance, has reached its technological limits. Then the multi processor era was begun. So the free performance increasing is stopped. Now if we want to gain maximum usage of multi-core machines, the application also has to be parallel. The burden always goes the the application programmers. In order to get improve e cient usage of multi-cores we have to properly distribute data and functions through among cores. This research is to improve the e cient multi-core usage by nding out better ways of process scheduling. The results shows that setting processer a nity correctly, improves the performance of the application. Therefore we give recommendations on when to set a nity and when should not set a nity and also give di erent interfaces to cores in a multi-core machine.
