Authors: Gayan, I.H.S.
Issue Date: 14-Oct-2013
Abstract: As a very successful and heavily spread financial and leasing organization in Sri Lanka; Central Finance Co (PLC) relies seriously on their inventory control system to fulfill their valued customer service. The Current three wheel & Dimo Batta inventory control system is manual. Central finance need to keep a track of the products on a regular basis to determine, how much to order, when to order and deliveries across the branches around the country. All the records are paper based; hence authority faces lot of problems with information misplacement. In addition lot of time is consumed for the manual system and adversely impacts the company’s daily processes. Therefore the objective of this project was to design and develop a system that provides a solution to solve existing issues, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the whole processes and mitigate the risk. After carefully analyzing the exact requirements, a new web based Inventory Control System was proposed and designed to overcome the complexity of the current inventory process. The proposed system will automatically monitor inventory amounts, provide information on inventory and provide inter branch functioning facilities. It was implemented using various tools. Joomla was the main tool which was used to develop the system.PHP language was used for development and XAMPP was used as database server. The entire application could be viewed using the Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox web browsers on Windows platform. Apart from the implementation, the development practice included a proper Quality Assurance process, user training sessions, and Video demonstration to improve the benefits of the system. An inventory control is a requirement which is more than immediate and reactionary decisions that directly affect customer satisfactions and the business progress. Therefore, it is essential to establish and enforce a proper system that will serve as a tool in utilizing the inventory management process in the most efficient manner.
