Web Based School Administration System for Sri Dharmaloka College

Abstract

Sri Dharmaloka Vidyalaya is a popular national school situated in Kelaniya under the category of grade 1AB schools. It is a mixed school which has classes from grade 1 to 13 with about 4000 students and 150 teachers. Currently all the administration and other work is carried out manually which creates a lot of problems and inefficiencies. All the reports are generated through retyping the same details repeatedly when they are needed. Also there is no single centralized database. There is no proper way to track student information at once. Thus the school was in need of a better automated system to streamline the processes with an efficient quality service minimizing or eliminating the problematic issues which are encountered in the prevailing manual system. In this project we have developed a web based school administration system for the school. The system helps monitoring student progress, coordinating activities, monitoring or managing the teachers leave, attendance, teacher timetables, generating relief timetables, managing the syllabus coverage and relief topics, generating results sheets, report cards and extracurricular activity reports and applying leave. The system uses a centralized database management system. It provides messaging services too and also gives the facility to generate a variety of reports. The system is totally based on different user levels and the privileges given to those levels. The system was developed using asp.net with SQL server as the DBMS. The development was done after analyzing similar implementations and their beneficial functions and interfaces have been incorporated to the new system. The system is fully operational. It can be easily ported for other school usage too.
