Title: Web Based Training Information Management System (TIMS) for National Water Supply & Drainage Board

Abstract: Every aspects of management rely on information to succeed. To improve the performance of the organization, information management must be economic, efficient and effective. Today the internet is rapidly changing the way information is generated, accessed and distributed. Web-based information system is an information system that uses internet web technologies to deliver information and services to users. The purpose of this project is to develop a web based training information management system (TIMS) for the Manpower Development & Training Division of National Water Supply & Drainage Board. The proposed system will support to automate the existing time consuming manual training management system by providing capabilities for online collecting and analyzing training needs, nominations, overseas training details, searching participation details, publishing training announcements and news messages, displaying training schedules, handling user inquires, handling course information and materials, generating text based & graphical summery reports, storing, retrieving & backup training data and handling several other training management requirements of the division with the help of advance features of the system. The system supports multilingual capabilities. Further this system supposes to reduce several time consuming, inefficient manual procedures associated with the activities such as selection of suitable candidates, preparation of training schedules, communication with regional offices etc. The system has also addressed the security aspects of the training data. The project was carried out using evolutionary prototyping methodology. The design is based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and class diagrams. A model system prototype has been developed using Joomla! open source content management system with WAMP server web development environment. The integrated database management system and framework of the TIMS is being developed using Apachi MySQL and PHP. Each module is tested using test plan and user valuation is done with training staff of Training Division.
