Abstract

W A L K E R S T O U R S is the leader in the Destination Management industry in Sri Lanka and is attached to the Leisure In-Bound Sector of the country s largest listed conglomerate, John Keells Holdings PLC. The principal activity of Walkers Tours is focusing on In-Bound Tourism and providing destination management services. The final objective of the Transport Reservation system developed for walkers tours, is to streamline the operations of the Operation and Transport Department staff and provide an improved service to system users. Which in tern would increase efficiency of the operation which results in increased satisfactory level in productivity. This Dissertation complies to the System Development Life Cycle followed during system Development up to the evaluation phase. It looks at the background of the Company and the problems faced by the management and the staff with regard to manual procedures which are included as part of the requirement analysis. A review of the design is also included in this document. This system uses Object Oriented Concepts with Visual Studio 2005 as the development environment and C#.Net and ASP.Net as the development tools. MS SQL Server 2008 is used as the Database Management System. Upon successful implementation of the project, the users of the system will have access to Web Based Transport Reservation System to carry out day to day activities. Further it will also help to easily manage the Transport Request generation, Allocation of vehicles, Dispatching of Transport orders, Receiving of Transport Orders, Invoicing and generating necessary reports. Access to certain functionalities has been granted only on privileged basis.
