INVENTORY CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE LANKA IOC FILLING STATION

Abstract

Lanka IOC Filling Station, Colombo 05, is a subsidiary company of Lanka IOC PLC. The company?s main activity is to sell fuel and some consumer products along with their main product. At present, they buy goods from suppliers and sell to customers. While carrying out their day to day transaction activities a transaction log is manually entered into excel sheets. Due to this manual process when the company needs to take decisions they need to perform a manual process in order to generate management reports. At present the company is facing difficulties in maintaining their stocks, generating reports and taking decisions due to poor handling of data of transactions. In view of the current situation this project is to overcome the company?s difficulties in an efficient manner. A quick look at the entire system reveals that it has four main sub systems namely, Administration, Master Information, Transaction Process and Report Generation. This Inventory Control System covers all the functionalities from goods receiving from suppliers to selling goods to customers. The system has an advanced reporting tool which generates reports according to user preferences. Since the system is to perform as an online system, users will be able to obtain live information they need at any given time. The Inventory Control System was developed according to the Three-Tier Architecture and Object Oriented concepts were employed. Unified Modeling Language (UML) was used in the System Analysis and Designing Phases of the project. While System Implementation was done using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 using C Sharp(C#) Language with Janus Win Controls 3.5, Database Management System was done using Microsoft SQL Server 2005. This Inventory Control System guarantees that it has been well tested and all the process areas of the company using the system have been well covered.
