Abstract: IDM Computer Studies is a Computer Education and Training institution in Sri Lanka which commenced its operations in year 1981, and has been providing ICT related services to the nation for more than 30 years. IDM has 52 branches including own and franchised branches. Being in the industry for more than 30 years IDM still not have a proper system to connect all its branches. This lack of inter connectivityleaving the businessunits in silos and which has been an impediment for their performance and ultimate sustainability. Having realized the disadvantages of not having the right degree of inter connectivity among the Headquarters and 52 branches IDM management has eventually decided to have its own version of branch management information system named IDM-GMIS. Web based MIS for IDM Group (IDM-G MIS)will provide the degree of inter-connectivity between branches and the head office with a scope covering branch registrations, finance& budgets, class scheduling, staff management, document &inquiry sharing, certificate request handling, study pack issuance, event management etc. which are vital aspects of operationsof the IDM network of branches. Quality information on these aspects are a necessary for the top management as well as for the branch managers to effect a smoother day to day operation, hence the need for the provision of adequate management information in the forms of various reports is a part of this system’s scope. A project has been undertaken to achieve this end. The solution is being carved out as a web based Management information system using Drupal CMS with the use of available reusable modules and custom modules as required. This system uses PHP, Apache server MYSQL as database. The work carried out as part of this project, options considered and major decisions taken are laid out in the following sections of this dissertation.
