Student Information Management System For Institute of Engineering Technology Mechanical Division

Abstract

Institute of Engineering Technology is a well-organized engineering institute which conducts engineering diplomas in Sri Lanka. This report describes the complete development process of the Student Information Management System which was designed for one of its divisions called Mechanical Division. The requirement of such a system for the division was arouse due to the existed manual file management system which can be described as massive, error prone, space and time consuming poor system. The IT resources available and potential of designing and maintaining such a system also sharpened this requirement further. The system was based on the Object Oriented Concept with two systems, Applicationbased Information System and Web-based Information System. Necessary development tools such as Modeling Language tools, IDE Development tools, and web development tools were effectively used during the system development process while Database software, Java runtime environment and Web server software were also used in system implementation. The ultimate objective of this system was to provide a smooth and efficient information management solution for the above problem using Information Technology. This report bears all the relevant information about the system structure and its development process from requirement analysis to final system testing phase.
