Administration and coordination System IIESL - UAE Branch

Abstract

Institute of Incorporated Engineers Sri Lanka is a well established engineering institute and currently has a branch in the United Arab Emirates which is very popular and respected among the Sri Lankan professional community as well as other nationalities. The institute has a fairly large membership and operates under the umbrella of Consulate General?s office Dubai . The institute?s UAE branch which is commonly referred as IIE-SL(UAE), is currently performing most of its operations using manual methods with very limited automation. It is seen as an essential requirement to have an ICT based solution to have a better control over the activities and procedures which are currently handled manually. Chairman, Executive committee and the members are with the same understanding to have an IT solution which will be beneficial to all concerned. As a result of this project an ICT based solution was developed to cater for the needs of IIESL-UAE which had helped the institution to perform their day-to-day work as well as various other processes smoothly and in an efficient manner. Main focus of the project was given to Data/ information storage, Notifications to members, Event handling, Membership registration and Accounts handling. Reasonable and affordable hardware platforms were used with networking capabilities and the software development was based on freely available open source offerings. MySQL was used for the database and the code development was carried out using PHP. Networking capabilities are available in the developed solution in order to have access to the public internet. The feedback received from the client had indicated that they are fully satisfied with the solution which was developed for them and already they are reaping the benefits of the project to its maximum.
