Online Magazine Viewing System for Algama Group

Abstract

Algama Group of companies is a reputed and a stabilized company in Sri Lanka, which offers a wide range of products and services. Its core area deals with the processes of clearing and forwarding export and import goods. It also has expanded its reach to logistics, tourism, electronic goods imports and legal consultancies. The group plans to launch a new magazine related to issues of law within this year (2011). They aim to reach a wide range of readers and are in need of a method to promote the magazine. This issue was the main reason to undergo this project. The web based system developed, will be used as a promotional tool for the new magazine that they publish. The system consisted on several major functions. An online magazine viewer was implemented for the users to view the e-version of the magazine. A forum was also provided to the users to discuss about their law related issues. Also a facility to ask law related questions directly from the administrators was provided. A feature to generate reports, user authentication and authorization methods were also implemented in the system. The successful completion of the system enabled the group to reach a large number of readers both local and abroad. The system was developed by using object orientation principles. The Unified Modeling Language (UML) was used as a notation in designing the system. Several tools such as, smart draw, gliffy.com were used in creating necessary diagrams. The WAMP environment was used as a development environment and Dreamweaver was also used. The Joomla CMS was also used in the implementation stage. At the completion of the project, the objectives that were established in the beginning were assessed. Both, these objectives and the requirements of the client were successfully met at the closure of the project.
