WEB BASED SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR LANKA BRUSH EXPORTS (PVT) LTD.

Abstract

Supply Chain Management is the 21st century global operation strategy for achieving organizational competitiveness. Companies are seeking ways of improving their businesses with more flexibility and responsiveness and in turn competitiveness by changing their operation strategy, methods and technologies that include the implementation of supply chain management with the help of information technology. Lanka Brush Exports (pvt) Ltd is a private limited liability company registered in Sri Lanka in 1993. From humble beginning over 17 years ago, Lanka Brush Exports (pvt) Ltd expanded its business to reach global markets. The company is involved in a business of manufacturing, and exporting of value added products such as brooms and brushes. Most of the key raw materials used in its production processes are coconut fiber, timber etc. which are bio degradable. Although the company has obtained ISO 9001-2008 and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifications, most of the order processing and supply management activities are done manually. This causes considerable delays in normal operations and at the same time inconsistencies of the information passed between relevant parties. Therefore with this project it is attempted to improve and maintain the standards for order processing and managing the supplies. System consists of the web site for Lanka Brush Exports (pvt) Ltd and its Supply Chain Management System. This web based Supply Chain Management System will be developed using PHP, which is most popular, and a powerful server-side scripting language and Apache as web server. MySQL is the preferred database management System to hold the enterprise data. This combination ensures high stability and portability to the system developed at minimum cost.
