Stock and Sales Management System for New Kumudunie Industries

Abstract

New Kumudunie Industries is a well reputed company in north western province engaged in selling higher quality consumables such as pappadam and noodles etc. It has a higher volume of clientele due to the outstanding customer service that they provide. Although they have a considerable market share, they were relying on an inefficient manual file handling system. Because of the usage of manual system to conduct business, they had to go through lots of difficulties when handling sales, stock and payment collection activities in addition to unnecessary paper and labour cost derived by a manual system. This endeavour was to introduce a computer based solution as a helping hand to eliminate those difficulties. The proposed system which was developed includes all necessary functionalities to support smooth and effective sales and stock management process. It also assists payment collection process, although online order processing and real time payments are not addressed by the proposed system. This system is based on client-server architecture and developed according to object oriented principals by using Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Unified Modelling Language (UML) as development methodology and designing language respectively. Java 1.5, JSP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, HQL and XML languages were used when developing, along with Struts2 and Hibernate3 frameworks. MySQL was chosen to provide the database. Finally, the system which has been developed helps to overcome problems existed earlier and provides an excellent solution for sales and stock management activities as management expected.
