WEB BASED MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR JOINT EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY

Abstract

With the advancement of science and technology automated systems have become popular in most of the industries. Especially it has become a convenient and speedy way of handling and maintaining of day to day business information. The proposed Web based Management Information System is for Joint Equipment and Machinery a company that is engaged in construction machinery selling, hiring and repairing trade. At present the company has two offices; the head office in Kelaniya and a branch office in Kurunegala. Currently a manual bill book system is used for handling sales, equipment reservation and repairs which is inefficient in many ways for the company where it leads to many constraints and shortcomings. As such the client has to go through documentation manually in order to get details of the business growth, company profits, difficulty in studying the customer trends, interests and the promising areas and maintaining stocks and stock levels. Also the client has to physically visit the branch office in order to inspect the business operations. The goal of this proposed system is to minimize the above shortcomings and limitations. Main features covered by this system which is beneficial for the client are the maintaining stocks and stock levels, processing of sales, equipment reservation, repair and maintenance of equipments and report generation etc... In addition, the online showroom of the proposed system will be a convenient way for the customers to inspect the available products without physically visiting the store at any given time regardless of office hours. As the products are at displayed online, the customers do not need to make inquiries via telephone or fax to get details of the available products. The accounting facility of the company is out of the scope of this project. The system is developed using PHP, MySQL as the backend database and the Apache server. Furthermore Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver were used to develop the website.
