STUDENT MANAGEMENT AND ONLINE EXAMINATION SYSTEM FOR MICOM INSTITUTE

Abstract

Today s world is moving more and more towards artificial- environment. Thus, most of the manual systems have been shifted to automated system and the rest are now being shifted. MiCom International College is one of the leading information technology related education providers in Sri Lanka with the number of students in the private sector higher education category. It is located in Wellawatta, Colombo-06. Popularly known as MiCom , it delivers certificate, diplomas and pre university programs. This web based computerized student management and online examination system tends to focus on the important functionalities of the institute and student management which includes and facilitates like managing the student information, managing the staff information, managing time schedule of courses, email notification, report generation, searching functionalities, managing the student results, and online examination. This system is providing access for three levels of authorized users such as Administrator, Student and Staff (lectures) where they are authorized and authenticated by the admin and provided functionalities depending on their role. So this kind of designing ensures security, accuracy, reliability, robustness, confidentiality and user-friendly. Furthermore this project describes about the quality and acceptance of user interfaces, major code and module structures, test plans and reports, discussion of results of the system and the discussion about further amendments that can be made to the system. This web based solution is developed using ASP and C Sharp.Net language. AJAX and Coolite technologies are used to generate the reports and display the data. XML mainly used in online examination system to generate the exam questions. The Internet Information System (IIS) is used as the web server and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is used as the database management system.
