Web Based School Management System For St. Anne s College

Abstract

The mission of a school is to enhance a child s growth and help them discover a value system that can be their compass in the world. In order for a school to achieve its mission it is a vital factor for a school to be run with efficiency and on sound principles that guide day-to-day decision-making processes in a school. Therefore the need to maintain school management processes in a stable and secure manner has become a vital responsibility of all school administration bodies. The advances in information technology have resulted in the development of web based school management systems to assist in the administration of school management processes. St. Anne s Maha Vidyalaya, Kochchikade maintains a paper based system to manage their day to day processes. The current system faces many impediments since it involves manual intervention. In addition the school faces problems in maintaining student payment details and student and teacher information. The web based school management system is designed to solve these problems that the school faces. The system consists of an Administration module, Exam and Event Scheduling Module, Grades Module, Fees Module, Profiles Module and Management Reports. However the system would not facilitate time table scheduling, payroll management, student attendance management, library management, past pupils data management and infrastructure management. The system was developed using object oriented concepts. Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, SQL server2005 and the .NET Framework 3.5 were used for the development of the system. The system was implemented at the school and achieved all anticipated benefits. The system proved to be successful and all users accepted the system as a practical solution.
