A Web Based Hospital Management System

Abstract

A Hospital Management System improves the quality of patient care in thishospital. Many patients with long term illnesses will be visiting this hospital daily. Most of them are low and middle income people and want to get consultation and treatment from medical experts. Although manual data gathering is available at present, data retrieval is time consuming as files have to be manually searched. Storage of past data is hampered by lack of space. This system facilitates a registration system for patients and making appointmentsrather than visiting the hospital. Apart from this there is a report generating system which will be updated from the laboratory, so that the doctor and patient can view thereport details without any delay. The patients can update their report details and doctors can prescribe drugs according to the patients report by using a virtual clinic. Therefore the time taken to treat a patient will be reduced and efficient and accurate service can be provided. Clinical care is enhanced by the ability to view the longitudinal history of a patient. The follow up report identifies outpatients who default treatment enabling community follow up. This would help improve compliance and reduce relapses. This is not currently done as itis not feasible to identify all those who default using a manual record keeping system. Apart from this if a communicable disease patient admits to the hospital an email message generates as a notification alert. Analysis of patients based on different criteria such as diagnosis and treatment will assist in identifying trends and provide a database for research.The system was developed using PHP and MySQL database and is hosted on two servers. Thisuses only in windows operating system. This environment allowed easy and low cost deployment.
