Authors: Nagodavithana, R.S.
Issue Date: 2-Dec-2013
Abstract: The library of Sujatha Vidyalaya has been running on a manual system since it s initiation but in the modern world where time is a precious commodity, it is fast becoming inefficient and effort consuming due to the increase in membership and a large volume of titles. One of the major problems being faced by the members of the library is the time consuming task of searching for books. Few of the goals of the project are to provide the users of the library an efficient and timely service and to drastically reduce the time and energy wasted in maintaining the library while reducing the workload of the librarian. The proposed system will aid in tasks from registration of members to the maintenance of the library catalogue. The system will also automate some processes such as fine calculation and help in maintaining the library by keeping shelf information. Keeping track of books borrowed by the members the proposed system will also aid in books acquisition by finding out the most borrowed books and generating reports accordingly. The project was implemented using Visual Studio 2008 as the IDE and SQL server 2008 is used as the database server. Coding was done using the C# programming language and the .NET framework. Visual Studio s own reporting tool was used for report generation. In addition, StarUML was used to draw the UML diagrams shown in this dissertation. At the end of this project a standalone application that met the client requirements was successfully implemented and installed at the client computer.
