PIMS (Patient Information Management System) FOR HEALTH CENTER (UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA)

Abstract

The Health Center of University of Peradeniya is most useful, and a very busy institution. Patients (include university students, academic staff and nonacademic staff) come here for treatment daily for various ailments. Health center face many difficulties when handling medical records of vast number of patients manually. Lack of accessibility of data is the cause for failure to provide a better service to the patient. Therefore this project used to improve the patient care and maintain the quality and efficiency of the processes presently followed at the Health Center. Also proposed a web based solution for patients and important parties to access the medical records from anywhere in the world. The entire process divides into several sub systems, namely Registration, Patient Medical Records Handling, Medical Test Details Handling, Staff Information Handling, Statistical Analysis and Reports Generation. This project covers all functions of the Health Center. Only registered patients can access their medical records through the web site. More over relevant graphs and reports are provided for better management. This system should be developed according to the Prototype Model and also address the Object Oriented Techniques. Unified Modeling Language was used to analyze and design the system. NetBeans IDE 6.9.1 used implement the system in JAVA language with the help of MySQL Database server 5.5 and MySQL GUI tool 5.0 in the windows environment. Proper achievement of the goals and objectives of a hospital heavily depends on better patient care and patient information control mechanism. Through achieving functional and non-functional requirements of the project, this system will give a smooth functioning procedure with user friendly environment. Hence this project will ensure better and efficient working environment in the Health Center of the University of Peradeniya.
