Project Management & Monitoring System For Rezgateway (PVT) Ltd

Abstract

Rezgateway is a multi-national company which was provided e-travel software solutions for B2B and B2C environments. Rezgateway was owned by the Reservations Gateway Inc. which was registered in USA. All the development and maintain services was handled by the development centre located in Pamankada, Colombo. Main reason driven for this decision is that, their needs was not fulfilling by current processes. Ms-project and a JIRA based system was used to manage and record the project details. Because of the dissension which was taken by the management, moving to Linux based open source systems was the main reason for find an alternate for MS-project. From the feedbacks which ware given by the project management staff, they decided to implement an in-house solution for manage and monitor projects. Access project information from remote locations ware difficult by the current process. Some information was cannot access by without asking in charge offices. Because PMMS was being web based, the data could be acceded by authorized personal through internet. Schedule meetings and keep track of them was not handled by current process. Emails to relevant parties was send by the people who schedule the meeting. Proposed PMMS s meeting scheduler will automatically send the reminders to relevant parties when the meeting is due. Users can see; what are the meetings to be due in the future, by searching project meetings in PMMS. As the initial requirement, PMMS solution should be Web based. J2EE technology was chosen by us for build the PMMS. Struts 1 was chosen for implement the MVC architecture. To wire the beans and initialize the whole project Spring was sued. For the persistence layer Hibernate was used. As the web server Apache tomcat was used, because the application is not heavy and tomcat is very suitable for lightweight J2EE applications. MySQL was chosen as the DB because it was a stable, efficiency, open source DB. For the development prepossess, Eclipse Helios/Indigo was used as the development IDE
