Abstract

Polestar Marine Engineering Pte Ltd (PME) is a well-recognized organization in Singapore for reconditioning damaged or worn out components of marine diesel engines, supplying new parts, providing consultation and store & control the movement of the marine engine components (warehouse management) on behalf Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works) - MHI in Singapore. The warehouse management is a challenging deal to PME due to manual processing and it encounters difficulties to handle the warehouse transactions and to give stock information in real time to MHI. Therefore the endeavour of this project will be to provide a web based warehouse management system (WMS) for both PME and MHI to satisfy their requirements. The purpose of this dissertation is to illustrate the stepby- step procedures to overcome the problem when handling the warehouse management. WMS is structured using web based architecture and structured methodology. DFD and ERD are employed in order to analyse & design the system. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX is used as a developing tool to create the webpages. ASP programming is used for the dynamic responses and to interact with the back-end, JavaScript features are utilised to validate the client inputs and Microsoft Access database to store the data in the windows environment. The system consists of three sub systems, namely the Admin area is used by PME admin users to manage the components details, handle the incoming & outgoing transactions, Management area is used by PME management to view stock transactions and the Client area is used by MHI to give order to PME to deliver the components on the specified date to the specified location. Accordingly, WMS will be a total solution for PME & MHI to handle stock information in real time and to give relevant reports.
