HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Abstract

An Automated Hospital Management System has been developed for the Psychiatry Unit of the District General Hospital, Negombo. The hospital currently handles all documentation manually. Therefore they have difficulties in quick access to patient records and statistically analyzing their data. Many data losses occur due to document misplacement and mishandling. Surfing through bulky documents and statistical analysis of data to generate reports is time consuming and inefficient in the current process. The automatic system was developed in order to reduce the above mentioned problems. The system handles ward patients and clinic patients separately. All patient records are secured by providing access authority to doctors and nurses in the unit. The system will facilitate the user with quick searching and accessing options to patient history records, allergy details etc. Patients are sorted and many different registers such as new patients, follow up patients, patients receiving depot medications, difficult patients, patients attempted suicide and high risk patients can be maintained and handled much efficiently. Patient s current- age, delay in attending clinic can be calculated automatically. Most importantly the system statistically summarizes patients according to their diagnostic illnesses, and many other records required by the health ministry. The system handles patient registration and their record management. Object oriented programming concepts were used in developing the system and implemented on Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Framework 3.5 Professional Edition 2008 using C#.NET as the programming language. SQL Server 2005 was used to handle the database. Crystal Report was used to generate reports. Dissertation illustrates the work carried out during the project in relevant chapters. They are categorized as software development phases and discussed in depth.
