Group Insurance Payment Handling & Policy Maintenance System

Title: Group Insurance Payment Handling & Policy Maintenance System
Authors: Wijesinghe, S.A.T.M.
Abstract: As this is the 21st century, the world is developing rapidly with the advancements of Information and Communication technology. The ICT industry grows in a rapid span and embraces a wider spectrum of activities with itself. This is affected to all and every sectors in the world becoming computerized with both hardware equipments and software systems to make day-to-day life easy and comfortable.
Two types of insurance can be identified and they are life insurance and general insurance. In Sri Lankan context, there is a rapid growing interest about insurance is visible among people not only in Colombo but also in rural areas. The major causes may be large number of accidents, war situation in North-East, increasing complexity of social life and many other reasons.
This project is developed to the Group insurance division of Ceylinco Insurance Company Ltd. Here I’m focusing on the Group Insurance, which is a part of the life insurance. Group insurance policies are design only for the group of employees who are employed in various companies and not for the individual customers. There are more benefits in group insurance policy than individual life insurance policy. Comparatively the premium of a group insurance policy is lower than the normal life insurance policy. This project covers the computerization of the group insurance policy maintenance and payment handling part.
Currently a major part of the workflow is handled manually and the documentation process is highly time-consuming, hence outcome in delays. There are so many paper works to do and many possibilities to happen human errors. As well as the work is duplicated due to non-availability of a computer system thus creating inefficiencies, inaccuracies, redundancies and wastage of resources. Some of the reports generated by the existing system provide incorrect data. As the final achievement of this project, it has over come all the above mention difficulties and inefficiencies.
As we are moving fast to digital economic era, computer based policy maintenance and payment-handling system is more useful to analyze customer insurance requirements and marinating the group insurance policies

Title: Moodle Based E-Learning System for Business Management”
Authors: Wijesinghe, W.A.B.K.
Abstract: In the year 2003, E-learning was introduced to the BIT students of UCSC through a Learning Management System (LMS). UCSC hopes to gradually extend the E-learning facility to all the BIT students.

As a result, the development of “Moodle based E-learning System for Business Management” was initiated. This development process mainly emphasizes the Business Management syllabus in Semester 3. Convergence of lecture notes together with the lecture slides and extracted information from reference books have been used as the main component of content design. Contents have been constructed in a way which brings more enthusiasm to study.

When designing the system, special design tools like Course Maps and Story boards were used in order to have a clear idea in the phase of development, also to be more consistent throughout the development stage.

Considering above points a firm foundation was laid for the development and implementation of the project ensuring an integrated support for the student.

Title: Fleet Management System for Central Finance Company Limited
Authors: Wickramaratna, S.E.
Abstract: The purpose of this report is to record and present the information gathered during the system study and to present the identified boundaries and expectations of the automated system. This document covers the user requirements, project design and user interfaces of the fleet management system , which consists of the automation of work involved in the maintaining of fleet.

The scope of the project involves gathering of the requirements from the relevant users and carrying out the analysis, design and implementation of same.

The fleet management operation comprises of six main areas such as vehicle purchasing, maintenance, fuel, periodic renewals, managing the vehicle pool and disposal. The scope of this project is to implement the foundation of capturing the data and transactions related to the above areas. The system will be further enhanced to provide access through the existing network and through web interface in the future.

PC Based Flood Warning System

Title: PC Based Flood Warning System
Authors: Wijayaratna, A.J.M.K.
Abstract: People have faced floods and other related disasters from thousand of years.
Rainfall is the most effected reason for floods. So people monitored rainfalls and other
climate changes. Normally meteorologists capture rainfall readings 8 times per day
(once three hours) and broadcast it to the people once a day. Furthermore, there is no
any system to determine the rate of rainfall (E.g. rainfall per minute).
Between broadcast times, if there exceed a threshold limit of rainfall, there is
no suitable way to announce it to the people. So people possibly will have to faced
floods and other related disasters.
If there is an automatic system to measure rainfall rate and other climate
changes, then people can get away of disasters. Most research groups have made
instruments for measure climate changes. But still there is no good automatic system to
measure rainfall rates, announce it. So, such a system should be made.
In this project we attempt to make a system for measure rainfall rate
automatically and broadcast it to the nation. The system can monitor the rainfall rate
and notify if it reach to a threshold limit. For work the system accurately, there are
several parts attach to it. The tipping bucket is the rain water collecting and counting
unit. It can measure rainfall rates. Next is the counter unit, it can count the rainfall
rates. The counter unit uses a Light Emitting Diode (LED) and a Light Dependent
Resister (LDR) to with the purpose of. Other part is the Analog to Digital converter,
which can convert the Analogue signal generated from counter unit to Digital signal
which the can inserted to PC. These signals inputted to the PC trough a port. Inside the
PC the data stored and analyzed them. If exceed a threshold limit of rainfall the system
automatically inform it.
