Mobile Based Real-Time Public Bus Tracking and Contactless Fare Payment System

Title: Mobile Based Real-Time Public Bus Tracking and Contactless Fare Payment System
Authors: Liyanaarachchi, D.C.
Abstract: Abstract
This project presents an innovative approach to addressing the absence of a fully functional
Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform in Sri Lanka, with a specific focus on public bus
transportation. The goal is to enhance accessibility and popularity of public transportation by
creating a comprehensive mobile-based solution, incorporating real-time bus tracking and
contactless fare payment.
The system features user-friendly Android mobile applications tailored for passengers,
conductors, and managers, alongside a web portal for administrators. These applications enable
passengers to find routes, track buses, estimate arrival times, and pay online securely. Managers
will have a mobile portal for fleet management and reporting, while conductors can use a mobile
app for ticket validation and emergency alerts.
A review of similar systems, including Google Transit, MyBusSL, Uber, and Moovit, was
performed. The rationale behind choosing the Modified Waterfall methodology was discussed,
comparing it with other methodologies and justifying its selection. System architecture and other
design decisions, such as use case diagrams, class diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence
diagrams, and entity-relationship diagrams, were elaborated with visual representations.
The frontend development was executed using Android Java and ReactJS, while the backend
infrastructure was built with NodeJs and ExpressJS. Databases such as SQL Lite, MongoDB, and
custom-built APIs were utilised, along with external services like Google Maps API, PayHere,
Render, and GitHub.
Testing strategies and test design approaches, including ziBlackbox and Whitebox testing,
utilised both manual and automated techniques employing TestNG and Selenium. Test cases were
documented using TestCollab and Jira, and defects were managed accordingly. Finally, user
evaluation was conducted, and positive feedback was received.
Overall, the project aims to rejuvenate Sri Lanka's public transportation by developing a
comprehensive public transport information system exclusively accessible through widely
available mobile smartphones. This initiative addresses convenience barriers that hinder the
widespread usage of sustainable transportation among the general public.

Web-based Commercial vehicle fitness e-certificate issuing system for Western Province (WCVFEIS)

Title: Web-based Commercial vehicle fitness e-certificate issuing system for Western Province (WCVFEIS)
Authors: Hemasiri, T.R.
Abstract: Abstract
The Web-based Commercial Vehicle Fitness e-certificate Issuing System for Western Province
(WCVFEIS) addresses the limitation of the manual process of vehicle fitness certificate
issuing. The renewal process of revenue commercial vehicle licenses, unlike other vehicles,
requires vehicle fitness certificates in addition to standard renewal documents. If there is a
fitness e-certificate, commercial vehicles can also be eligible for the online revenue license
service provided by DMT. Renewal of registration of fitness garages annually, which is a time consuming process with lots of paper work, is also addressed by this system. Modern society
largely tends to computer technologies like the internet and web applications. If it is very useful
to have a way of communication through the internet enabling online booking and online
inquiry information about the services. Through this system, it is possible to improve the
performance of the fitness garage and DMTWP, reduce costly paper work, increase user
performance, and generate reports easily. A commercial vehicle owner doesn’t have to waste
time in the garage because they can make an online appointment for an inspection vehicle. And
also, they can follow fitness e-certificate issuing status through this system. And also, fitness
garages can request renewal of garage registration online. This system interacts with five users.
They are Commissioner DMTWP, Subject Officer DMTWP, Vehicle Fitness Garage Owner,
Certifying Officer, and Commercial Vehicle Owner. They have different roles in this system.
This system was developed as a web-based system by using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and
MySQL technologies. As the web server, I used the XAMPP server. One of the most prominent
features of this system is user-friendliness. Online booking, inquiring current status, and email
notification facilities are user-friendly because they improve performance and give effective
service to the user.

Title: Wardroom Victualing Management System
Authors: GUNASOMA, W.H.K
Abstract: Abstract
The Sri Lanka Navy, considered the golden fence around the country, has performed a
tremendous service to its motherland over the past three decades. It is essential for the organization
to be highly effective in order to achieve its goals as a unified team. Many in-house information
technology solutions have been provided to address pressing issues in various administrative areas
and to improve the efficiency of existing organizational practices. These solutions have had a
positive impact on current administrative functions. However, there are still areas requiring
improvement that need proper attention. Managing victualing has become a time-consuming task,
requiring considerable man-hours due to the large number of personnel in the Sri Lanka Navy. It
has been identified that a web solution is needed to handle such tasks, increasing the productivity
and efficiency of the organization. The solution was developed using a web development tool,
Microsoft Visual Studio, and a database tool, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, to create an optimized
system for the identified problem. The Wardroom Victualing Management System was proposed
to address all issues associated with the existing manual system. The system manages all
victualing-related functions for officers, such as victualing in/out, menu customization, final
recovery handling, and summary reporting. The development of the system followed all phases of
the software development life cycle. It is guaranteed that the Victualing Management System will
address all pressing issues, easing the demanding workload of those involved in victualing
management on a daily basis. The system has been accepted as a sophisticated solution by end
users, based on the feedback from a recent evaluation.

Title: Automobile Workshop Management System for Roshan Motors
Authors: Bandara, G.M.T.M.
Abstract: Abstract
The Automobile Workshop Management System was developed to streamline the business
processes of Roshan Motors, a well-established automobile workshop, and address the
inefficiencies caused by its manual processes. The system aims to enhance operational
efficiency and improve overall workflow management. It incorporates three core modules:
Employee Management, Client Management, and Job Management, which cover the key
aspects of the workshop’s day-to-day operations.
Managing employees with their groups, grades and work schedules, managing clients and the
vehicles and job handling with the job creation, assignment and performance along with
appointment handling are some of the key features of the system. The dashboard has been
introduced for every user level to make the system more user-friendliness. Security,
performance and reliability had to be considered in the implementation stage and serve as a
web-based system with real-time performance to achieve higher user satisfaction. Different
levels of testing were carried out to verify the accuracy of the system process handling once
the development was completed. At last, user training and evaluation were performed and the
highest level of satisfaction was achieved for the system.
